NEW TO CLIMBING

What is Bouldering?

bouldering is a fun, accessible form of climbing designed to be done without ropes or harnesses. If you're new to it, here’s what you need to know.

Climbing Walls and Holds

bouldering takes place on specially built climbing walls that are shorter and don’t require ropes or harnesses. Instead, you climb shorter routes, called "problems," using your hands and feet. Crash pads, soft mats placed under the climbing wall, cushion any falls, making the experience safe.

Climbing walls are covered with coloured holds that look like rock features. Each climb has a specific set of holds and a sequence of moves to follow. Each climbing route, or "problem," has a unique set of moves, and you’ll try to complete it from start to finish. Climbs vary in difficulty, from easy to very challenging. Holds on the wall are color-coded to help you follow the climbing route, with different colors often corresponding to different difficulty levels.

Community and Support

Bouldering gyms are a great place to meet other climbers. You’ll often see people sharing tips, cheering each other on, and collaborating.

Gear and Preparation

You’ll need climbing shoes, which you can rent if necessary, as they are specifically designed to provide better grip on holds. Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement. Chalk is helpful for keeping your hands dry and improving grip, and don’t forget to bring water to stay hydrated.

Why Try Bouldering?

Bouldering is a great full-body workout that helps build strength, balance, and problem-solving skills. It’s beginner-friendly but also provides plenty of challenges for advanced climbers. Many people enjoy the community aspect and the encouragement they get from others in the gym.
