Vans Shop Riot
We are superstoked to have the mighty Vans Shop Riot in Hull and at Rockcity Skatepark next month. Its no secret how hard we have been working at Rockcity HQ to get Hull on the skate map over the years.
With the best shop teams in the UK decending on Rockcity for a wekend of shred it is guaranteed to be the biggest skateboard UK event of the year, bringing everybody together under one roof.
The event, supported by Hull City Council, KWL and of course, Skate / Hull. Its good to see all of our city pulling together to make Hull better.
The UK skate shops are invited to throw down and battle it out for the UK top spot and the chance to win it all in the finials taking place this year in Milan.
The UK Vans Shop Riot leg will be tearing up Rockcity skate park in Hull with qualifying taking place on Saturday 29th July and finals on Sunday 30th July.
The Vans Shop Riot 2017 UK Qualifier will be taking place at Rockcity Skatepark in Hull on the 29th and 30th July, with free admission to all and £3000 prize money on the table. Check the details in the press release below the flyer and pencil it in as we’re sure that this will go off at least as much as last year’s event in Nottingham.
Councillor Terry Geraghty, Hull City Council Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure and Chair of Hull Culture and Leisure Limited, said:
“It is great news that Vans Shop Riot will be coming to Hull and this will complement the Skateboarding Festivals and workshops taking place in many of our parks over the summer period. This is a great vote of confidence and reinforces our ambitions to become the UK’s capital of skateboarding, building on the fantastic work that is currently taking place with hundreds of young people across the city.”
“This promises to be another exciting event which I’m sure will capture the public’s attention as well as raising the profile of the city further.”
Hull, reined 2017 ‘City of Culture’ and the UK’s first skateboarding friendly city will open its doors to the industry’s finest for the weekend showdown.
Rockcity’s Mark English commented:
“We are delighted to welcome Vans Shop Riot to Rockcity. Hull is a city that has embraced skateboarding for many years and now even more so through the Skate/Hull partnership. It’s also a big boost for the new Vans Shop in Shop we have at the skate park too”.
Shop Riot was created back in 2009 to champion and support skate stores, the backbone of skateboard culture, by fostering team spirit and showcasing home grown talent on a European stage.
In 2016, Flo in Nottingham welcomed hundreds of skaters, shop staff and spectators through its doors as Manchester’s Black Sheep claimed another Shop Riot UK title.
The reigning champions will be back again for 2017, with more than 30 stores expected to come together to challenge them, each entering a team of three into the competition.
Stores have until 23rd June to register their interest to take part.
The best bit of course is that its free to come and watch*
*Terms and Conditions apply, the Management reserves the right to refuse admission. No U18 allowed unsupervised unless they are a Rockcirty Skatepark member/user.
